In a letter to Maurice Leloir (March 25, 1907), Dagnan-Bouveret discusses his search for historically accurate costume details, undertaken on behalf of his friend, the actress Mme. Bartet, in relation to her roles in "Marion Delorme" and "L'Espagnole." In another letter (March 8, 1922), he states his desire to include a portrait of Napoleon III by Alexandre Cabanel and one of General Foch by Jules Alexis Muenier in the exhibition "Cent Portraits."
